The Compass mission is to provide support services and build skills necessary to allow mothers to remain with their children in a safe place while living in sustained recovery.  The Compass staff endeavors to link chemically addicted mothers with services they need to receive treatment and achieve recovery.
 

The Compass program provides an environment that allows mothers to remain with their children.  These mothers are offered access to a variety of treatment, educational / vocational services to support their recovery.

Admission

Mothers entering the program will be screened prior to admission and must have a diagnosis od substance abuse and have evidence of demonstrated abstinence.  Those mothers with a psychiatric disorder will be considered for admission if they are stable.  Each participant must be enrolled in, or eligible for Temporary cash Assistance through the Maryland Department of Social Services.  Each mother must be able to take care of her own personal needs, as well as the needs of her children.  Family size is limited to two children under the age of ten.
 

Compass Services

The Compass program will provide mothers with an assortment of direct treatment and referral services.  The direct services that will be provided on site include:
 

  • Case Management
  • Life Skills
  • Finance Management
  • Wellness Education
  • Housing Search
  • Twelve Step Support Groups
  • Linkage to variety of other programs


Other auxiliary services are also provided, such as addictions treatment, 
domestic violence / sexual assault counseling and anger management.  Services provided through a referral system include job training, career development, medical treatment and psychiatric services.

Mothers are required to ensure their children are either in the appropriate day care setting or participating in a variety of structured, constructive activities throughout the day.  Also, all children will be enrolled in school, and will participate in school based activities when they are of the appropriate age.
