Walden/Sierra is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been serving Southern Maryland since 1973 through crisis services, counseling and substance abuse treatment.
As part of our commitment to providing community-based services to individuals, couples and families, we have d eveloped a strong network of partnerships with local schools, community agencies and the judicial system.

Volunteer and Advocacy Opportunities

We could really use your help! If you have time to give, please take a look at the list below. As you will see, our opportunities involve gardening, the arts, life skills and advocacy and a lot more. If you see something you are interested in, please contact 301-997-1300 ext 804 or lauraw@waldensierra.org. We often also post our new or special volunteer opportunities on-line at VolunteerMatch.org and at 1 800 Volunteer.

Volunteer options include:

Creative Healing Volunteer: help with creative arts/movement activities

Donations "Closet" Keeper: assist to create and maintain donations storage and inventory

Community Link: be our link with your civic or faith group when Walden is doing a donation drive for items, funds, special events, or advocacy

5K "Runner": help promote our annual run/walk event, assist with event day activities such as registration and set-up, or agree to recruit and captain a team of runners/walkers

"Friend of the Family" Volunteer: assist with childcare, life skill, computer skills or recreational activities

Recovery is Blooming Volunteer: provide outdoor landscaping maintenance or indoor flower/plant arrangements to Walden treatment facilities

Help & Hope Crew: assist us to respectfully collect the stories of individuals in recovery from trauma, abuse and/or addiction as a story collector or story teller

Video Volunteer: contribute as part of a team scripting, acting in and producing educational awareness videos on a variety of topics providing information and dispelling stereotypes related to domestic violence, sexual assault and addiction disease management
