Compass House
Welcome to Compass House, a safe place for mothers to live with their children while developing skills and a solid foundation for sustained recovery. Compass House provides a temporary home for mothers and expectant mothers seeking access to a variety of treatment, educational, and skill-building services supportive of their recovery and the well-being of the family. This type of housing is sometimes called a half-way house. Information about Compass can be obtained from the 24 hour hotline 301-863-6661 or by contacting Compass at 301-997-1300 ext 860.- Admission to Compass requires a screening, a diagnosis of substance abuse, demonstrated abstinence from abusing substances, and eligibility for/enrollment in the Temporary Cash Assistance program through the Maryland Department of Social Services. Mothers with a psychiatric disorder who are stable may apply. Mothers living at Compass must be able to take care of their own needs as well as the needs of their children. Family size is limited to two children under the age of 10.
- Direct services include case management, life skills training, finance management, wellness education, housing search assistance, parenting education and support, and linkage to other providers and community programs. Children's services are also available.
- Additional services include addictions treatment, trauma counseling, and anger management. Referral support is also offered for job training, career development, medical treatment and psychiatric services.
